Whirlpool under-counter ice maker water supply line recall 2021 was initiated after reports of the plastic water supply fitting inside select undercounter ice maker models cracking under normal water pressure, causing leaks that can result in water damage, slip-and-fall hazards, and potential electrical short-circuit risks.

Why This Matters

The water supply fitting defect can allow a slow drip or sudden burst of water to accumulate beneath and around the ice maker, creating a slip hazard on kitchen flooring and potentially reaching nearby electrical outlets or wiring. The CPSC and Whirlpool received 78 consumer incident reports, including 14 incidents of significant floor and cabinet damage and three reports of electrical outlets shorting due to water exposure. Approximately 130,000 units are included in this recall.

Recalled ice makers include WUI75X15HZ, WUI95X15HZ, and related undercounter Whirlpool ice maker models with the compression-fit plastic water supply connector. The model number is printed on a label visible through the open door on the interior left wall of the unit.

Production and Sale Dates

Affected ice makers were manufactured between March 2019 and October 2021 and sold at appliance dealers and home improvement retailers for approximately $1,299 to $1,799. Distribution was nationwide across all 50 states.
